That Time of Day

Many of us have “That time of day” when our cravings can get the best of us. For some people it is in the late afternoon, a few hours after lunch. And for some of us it is after nightfall, when dinner has past and the kitchen is supposed to be closed. Or maybe you had a stressful day and after a long, stressful day at work all you want to do is relax and fall into a handful of chocolate. I get it.

When you’re trying to make better choices and eat healthier meals this time of day becomes a huge challenge for us all. Here is how to get through it:

1 Acknowledgement
Acknowledge what time of day is your “witching hour.” My particular time of day is nightfall. I don’t know what it is about night time! Morning time eating is pristine for me. Afternoon, I can get through without a hitch. But night fall is a different story entirely! I can’t stop thinking about snacks and everything I shouldn’t be eating.

2 Arm yourself
Now that you know what time you are most likely to give into temptation, prepare yourself for it. I present two options: (1) If you are a calorie counter, backload your calories so that you can consume most of your calories at night. (2) Im not a calorie counter so for me, I prefer to set my bottles of water up on the table. I set up 6 16oz bottles of water on the table in front of me. This way, as soon as 6pm hits, I start drinking and I don’t stop until its bed time. Honey Im so full of water by 10pm I cannot wait to get to bed just so that I can stop drinking water!

But if you’re not into drinking water before bedtime, I get it. Try packing a small, high protein snack in tupperware. This way, as soon as the cravings hit, you are ready for them!

In my own journey to weight loss and healthy eating, I have found that preparation was the key to better choices.
